Member Spotlight- Aileen warren

Aileen Warren currently serves as the President and CEO of the Institute for Career Advancement Needs (ICAN). ICAN is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to develop inspired, authentic leaders, to transform the organizations and communities they serve.

As a Goodrich Scholarship recipient, she attended and graduated from the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) where she earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Social Work. She also holds a certificate in Organizational Development from the Fielding Institute.

After graduation from college, she began her professional career working at a variety of non-profit organizations including the YWCA and Urban League of Nebraska. During this time, she was selected to participate in the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce Leadership Omaha Program.

Here are some encouraging words that Aileen would like to say to the women at Nebraska Black Women United.

 “Don’t ever feel like you have to do it all yourself, don’t feel bad that you have to reach out.”

She has been recognized for her community contributions by being selected as the 2006 Boys and Girls Club of the Midlands Woman of the Year, in 2012 as an Omaha North High Viking of Distinction, and in 2018 as an Ak Sar Ben Court of Honor recipient. In 2020, she and her husband, Thomas also received the honor of having their faces on the barroom floor from the Omaha Press Club. In 2021, she received the CPACS Alumni Award from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Aileen enjoys traveling and hiking and has visited almost every major city in the US. She also has completed a marathon and three half marathons.

Aileen has been married to her husband Thomas for 37 years and they have three adult children, Jessica, Thomas Jr., and Alexandra, and two grandchildren Evan and Kingston.

Aileen joined NBWU because 

"The reason why I joined Nebraska Black Women United is for networking and providing space for black women to get together and connect."

One of the things Aileen is most proud of is being a wife and mother as well as being a role model and mentor to individuals in the Omaha community.
