Member Spotlight- Camelea Mendoza

Camelea Mendoza is the Executive Administrative Assistant to Carmen Tapio, President and CEO of North End Teleservices LLC and Founder of Nebraska Black Women United. Camelea is an integral part of the leadership team and the team that plans and manages Nebraska Black Women United events. Camelea handles anything and everything that comes her way, but Carmen said it best when she said, “the best way to describe Camelea is that she is our Heimdall, the guardian of Asgard, portrayed by Idris Elba in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!” A more accurate comparison has never been made! Camelea looks out for not only the best interest of the organization, but also everyone that she comes in contact with it.

Camelea’s experience includes 8 years Administrative Support to the Director of Cancer Epidemiology Education in Special Populations (CEESP) Program for Executing Existing Projects and Developing New Projects and Program Coordinator of Cancer Research International Training and Intervention Consortium (CRITIC) Program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Additionally, Camelea provided services for 5 years to clients with the Omaha Housing Authority as a Housing Case Specialist with the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program where she accumulated a wealth of knowledge about community resources. She wants members of Nebraska Black Women United to know that if they ever need help identifying a community resource that she is happy to assist them. Camelea believes in unity among women and stated, “we can put our minds together to overcome the common obstacles and challenges that we all face!”

Family is extremely important to Camelea. She is a big sister, a daughter, mother to her 18-year-old daughter and to many others. Camelea has a very beautiful outlook on family; she shared her wisdom on the topic by saying “blood doesn’t make you family.” This mindset is very apparent in how she cares for so many treating each as members of her family.

“Invite people to do something different, to step outside of their comfort zone and to make lifelong connections!” -Camelea Mendoza

Camelea is passionate about Nebraska Black Women United. When asked what advice she would give to other members about how to invite others to join she stated, “invite people to do something different, to step outside of their comfort zone and to make lifelong connections!” We are extremely honored to have Camelea’s leadership on behalf of Nebraska Black Women United.
