Member Spotlight- Jewel rodgers
Jewel Rodgers is a woman who wears many hats! Jewel is a poet, public speaker, an avid volunteer, community advocate, and a full-time Development Manager at Noddle Companies.
At just 12 years old, Jewel had one of her first impactful moments, which set her on the path to where she is today. She stood inside a beautiful building that "moved her to tears." She vowed to have that same effect on other people from then on.
She built up her knowledge of architecture and real estate development and studied at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to obtain her bachelor's degree. Jewel continued her education and received a Master's degree from NYU - Schack of Institute of Real Estate, where she also served as a Resident Assistant to grad-level and Ph.D. students.
"Going to school to learn the skills of real estate development has opened doors for the kind of impact I want to make. As I've grown up, I've spent a lot of time talking about why and how the built environment is so important. It's an honor to think that I'm preparing myself to show why it is so important now."
Jewel is a passionate and creative woman whose love of community shines through as she uses her voice to educate and uplift others by advocating for tenant relocation services, speaking life into a crowd at a public demonstration, or teaching high school poetry through the Louder Than A Bomb (LTAB) program.
She has utilized excellent communication skills and knowledge of real estate development in her roles as a Community Builder for South of Downtown Community Development Organization (SDCDO) in Lincoln, NE, and remaining active in grassroots initiatives.
Jewel believes there is a knowledge gap in real estate development, urban planning, and much more in the community and would "love to be a part of the group decoding the industry to make the education and experience more accessible to our neighbors and friends."
Jewel joined NBWU because
"I can see the vision of what Carmen is doing. In addition to making connections and helping one another in business, as a young black woman in a brand new space, even a simple conversation with someone who "gets it" goes a long way in establishing and maintaining peace of mind."
One of the most recent conversations she has had was about the importance of our elders helping young black women "navigate murky waters," and she would like to leave a message to those who have helped her.
"Thank you to every person who has helped and is helping me - whether big or small. It is vital. Thank you."
Jewel is a fantastic multi-talented and driven individual. NBWU is grateful to have her as a member and advocate for our state and community! We appreciate your work to better our society.
